Well-Defined Multicomponent Star and Graft Copolymers by メLivingモ/Controlled Polymerization

Abstract:
Functional star-shaped and graft
copolymers normally exhibit more complex microphase separation structures and
self-assembly behaviors than their linear analogues due to their branched chain
architectures, and thus they are of intriguing properties and applications in
many fields involving nanoscience and biotechnology.
Our study aims at synthesis,
characterization, and potential application of complex macromolecular
architectures involving dendrimers, hyperbranched polymers, and star / graft
copolymers.
Three parts of contents will be
presented in this talk, namely, synthesis of multiarm stars via controlled
radical polymerization and ring-opening polymerization (a), modular synthesis
of miktoarm stars and H-shaped copolymers via linking chemistry and controlled polymerization
(b), and facile synthesis of miktoarm stars and comblike copolymers based on
maleimide-styrene copolymerization system (c). Although our researches are
primarily focused on synthetic methodology, some basic physicochemical
properties such as microphase separation and self-assembly behaviors of
polymers, and drug-loading and controlled release properties of copolymer
aggregates were also investigated. Moreover, our recent research revealed that
the introduction of cleavable linkages into functional copolymers could allow
more promising potential in versatile topological conversions and smart drug
delivery systems.
